River II: Fall Begets Winter

Glorious autumn holds court only briefly, then retreats to allow winter to strip nature bare. I have seen the last leaves of fall floating down a river, their burnished red and gold reflections made more splendid by their small number. Soon, winter will alight in icy loveliness, frosting the ground with breathy diamonds and casting the river in glass.
