Sometimes the most mundane aspect of a trail catches the eye, especially in barely- spring. A ragged leaf black with frostbite; muddy pools that have let go of snow and wait for rain; a hump of brown rock whose plain coloring enhances a militarily precise fracture pattern, a necklace of ice, and a changing sky.
