What happened before the world was? I ponder weird things like this while I hike, never finding answers, but getting enjoyably lost in the questions. Some of the oddest places I’ve seen – San Rafael Swell, for example – are the most beautiful. Surely, I think, if I could hear their songs, they would sing the story of the world before it began.
